One of the accounts I run for myself has gone almost meteoric over the Christmas and New Year period. Conversions are up, my CPRs are down, and the conversion to paid members has remained pretty much the same. Combining that with a healthy increase in rebills and repeat payments, and January’s revenues for this account are looking very promising. more…
Hopefully your 2011 is going to be a storming year. One thing’s for sure…if you haven’t really embraced SEO and social media, now’s the time to do so. It’s going to play an increasing role in the future marketing of your sites, so it’s best you get involved now. Here are a few tips I’ve pulled together on SEO, together with some key reasons why you need to embrace social media (horrible term, but it’s the only one we’ve got for now). more…
As the Christmas holidays loom, it’s a great time to take stock of the year that was 2010, and to do some planning for 2011. Let’s face it, there’s only so much Wii you can play with the kids, and film re-runs you can watch, so make some use of the downtime and take stock. If running dating sites is your only means of income, it could be a good opportunity to discuss it with family & friends too – what do they think about it, and where do they think there are tricks you could be missing? Let’s face it, this business isn’t like you’re selling life insurance or banking products…it’s interesting, and EVERYONE always has an opinion about it. Listen to your friends and family and see what they think. more…
“Remind people that profit is the difference between revenue and expense. This makes you look smart.” – Scott Adams
Wow, what happened to 2010? The years are definitely getting shorter since we started Dating Factory. The speed with which time is passing, has led me to step back and review what we’ve achieved since we started working on Dating Factory in January 2009. more…
“The book of love is long and boring; no one can lift the damn thing. It’s full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing.” – The Book of Love by Magnetic Fields
I’m not the most romantic of guys much to my wife’s chagrin, so I thought I’d put a romantic quote of sorts at the beginning of this post. A fantastic love song, beautifully written without being too slushy, but best sung by Peter Gabriel. more…
Two weeks ago, I was reminded through an error on my part just how important it is to do two things:
This week, I’m going to talk about something you’ve probably seen on Google, but aren’t sure how you can achieve…sitelinks in your natural (or organic) search results. more…
There has been a lot of talk on the wires about Fighting Scammers and Matching systems.
At Dating Factory we tend not to put press releases out just to generate hype without substance, unlike most of our competitors. I did however feel compelled to let you all know our position on these sensitive themes. more…

You may be tempted to think that generating lists of additional keywords and throwing them into your account is a good way of making more money with your campaign. But are you getting the best performance out of the keywords that are already there? more…
Focusing on the detail can make all the difference when it comes to SEO. The importance of on-site SEO increases in relation to the total number of pages on your dating site. What might seem like a small thing to you, may not be so when it’s repeated 100,000 within your site template. more…
We just have to make sure that our partners and ourselves make money from it.

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve spent a great deal of time recently investigating our options with regard to mobile. One of the big challenges is all the people who collect along the way when you are taking payments or delivering a service on mobile, for those of you who can’t find the very tenuous connection to my opening quote, that’s where it is! more…
“I’ve just been on a once in a lifetime holiday. I tell you what, never again!!” (Tim Vine – comedian)
It’s been a while since I did this, so apologise to my avid reader, you can come back now. Does this long pause make me a rubbish blogger? Well it probably does really; however the challenge when writing a blog about “white label dating” is that it’s difficult not to keep repeating yourself. That’s exactly what I found myself doing. So using the World Cup, Summer Holidays, I’m busy and faking creative exhaustion, I’ve pushed this out in front of me. If I’ve got the whole world to blog about there are millions things everyday to bang on about and be interesting and witty. If it’s the dating industry, not that much happens that requires comment of any kind. more…
How often do you test your ad text? If you haven’t tested your ad messages for the past three months, then you’re missing out on clicks and conversions. The secret behind successful adwords campaigns is to test everything on a consistent basis. What you’re looking for is gradual improvements over time…and that can only be achieved by testing all the time. more…

I’ve taken a break from SEO tips this week to let you know about a useful tool released by Google recently called Search Funnels. I’ve been having a play with it over the past couple of weeks, and think it’s something that really could help inform your search marketing campaigns. Understanding how your customers behave is critical knowledge when it comes to paid AdWords campaigns, and while it’s important to know which search terms convert to sales, you don’t quite get the full picture with Google’s Conversion tracking. But with Search Funnels you get another piece of the jigsaw (not the whole picture though, because that would be too easy, wouldn’t it?) more…
This is the second article in the series of hints and tips to help you with improving your site’s visibility in the Search Engines (otherwise known as SEO). more…
Many bloggers and indeed Journalist use a famous quote to start their post. Not liking to seem too pretentious I thought I’d use a few really obscure ones in this. more…
SEO Tip # 1
Keyword research
Make sure you’ve done proper keyword research. Use multiple sources such as Google Keyword Tool, Google Trends and Insights for Search. If available, use PPC broad match and Google Analytics filters to see what short & long tail key phrases people are actually searching for, and which ones are converting on your particular site. more…
Sorry not to have been as productive on the blog front of late, but I’d rather say something meaningful than just be repetitive. On this train of thought of quality rather than quantity, I decided to write a piece on quality of traffic and targeting. more…
